WHEELING, W.Va., Jan. 7, 2017 -- Game three of the CRC’s Saturday portion featured two teams that played on Friday night. One team showed Friday night was just a warmup, while the other clearly showed the signs of a team that played a hardfought nightcap.
IMG Academy (FL) started sluggish much like it looked in Friday’s victory, but the Ascenders rounded into form and began to look more like the nationally ranked outfit that it is. Greenforest (GA), on the other hand, looked every bit the part of a team that went to the wire less than 24 hours earlier in a win over Roselle Catholic.
IMG used a 14-made field goal advantage and a 30-3 2nd quarter demolition to rout the Eagles (76-43) in a match up of Division 1 talent.
IMG moved out to a 15-7 lead after a quarter and extended the lead to 27-17 by the break thanks to great offensive balance. Florida signee Isaiah Stokes scored eight points, while four others combined for 17.
IMG turned a 10-point game into a 37-point blowout thanks to a 30-3 quarter following intermission. Trevon Duval, arguably the nation’s best lead guard, scored eight points to spearhead the onslaught.
Senior guard Jandan Duggan scored eight of his team-high 14 points in the 4th quarter allowing the Eagles to a hold slight advantage in the final frame.
IMG’s scoring balance was led by Duval with 15 points followed by Emmitt Williams V, one of the nation’s top juniors, with 12 points and a CRC-record 20 rebounds. Williams points included some rim-rattling dunks. Stokes added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Keyontae Johnson contributed 12 points.
6-foot-9 junior Mohammad Abdulsalam scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds as top support for Duggan. Florida State verbal commit Ikey Obiagu was held to just 2 points and four rebounds. Memphis signee Victor Enoh had just a single point, but did manage to collect nine rebounds.
IMG held Greenforest to just 26 percent shooting (15-of-57).
Stat of the Game:
IMG out scored Greenforest 30-3 in the 3rd quarter.
