WHEELING, W.Va., Jan. 4, 2013 -- Game 2 featured local favorite Wheeling Central Catholic against Mercersburg Academy (PA). The Maroon Knights, which has participated in every CRC event, surprised most onlookers by coming out of the gates quick taking a 13-12 lead after one quarter, but the Wheeling-based school was unable to keep pace as the Blue Storm used a decisive 2nd period to help earn a 58-41 victory.
The Blue Storm, participating in their first CRC, out pointed the Maroon Knights 20-4 in the 2nd quarter behind talented guard Dre Wills. The senior elevated above the rim on several occasions for some crowd pleasing crams to go along with 9-of-15 shooting for 19 points. Wills actually led Wheeling CC at the half, 19-17.
Freshman Chase Harler paced the Maroon Knights with six points in the opening half.
The Blue Storm extended its lead to 48-29 by the end of the 3rd session as Wills put seven more on the board. Central Catholic got 10 points in the period from junior David Park.
Wills finished the contest with 26 points on 12-of-21 shooting along with six swipes and four boards. 6-foot-6 senior Patrick Ryan totaled 13 points for the winners and classmate Reggie Fiumano chipped in 10 counters.
Park remained relentless despite the deficit finishing with 17 points in the face of a 6-of-23 showing from the field. Park also registered eight rebounds. Harler netted nine points and seven rebounds, and Senior Chance Siebieda added six points and eight caroms.
Stat of the Game:
Wheeling CC made just 15-of-61 (24.6%) action shots and only 3-of-17 (17.6%) from three-point range.
