Seton-La Salle def. Linsly, 63-44

WHEELING, W.Va., Jan. 04, 2013 -- The 2013 Cancer Research Classic got underway Friday night with a pair of local squads looking to secure victories against their respective Keystone state opponents.

The Linsly School, making its first CRC appearance and located in Wheeling, started the late afternoon off against Seton-La Salle out of Pennsylvania. The Cadets battled for much of the first half, but a decisive third quarter closed the door on visions of grander as the Rebels cruised a 63-44 triumph.

The Cadets hung tough in the opening quarter trailing 17-14 at the end of the chapter, but La Salle held a 16-10 advantage in the second quarter thanks to some hot shooting from junior guard Dale Clancy. The eventual game MVP knocked down 7-of-13 shots including 4-of-6 from distance en route to 18 points in the opening half.

Linsly sophomore Jibri Blount recorded 11 points and eight rebounds by halftime.

The Rebels defense locked up the Cadets in the 3rd period holding Linsly to just four points. The eight-minute span did in the Cadets as they trailed 45-28 heading into the final frame.

Clancy finished the game with 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Junior Levi Masua added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Senior guard Eric Marasco chipped in eight points and six boards.

Blount led the Cadets with 15 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Toddy Goodwin-Rowe added eight tallies.

Stat of the Game:
Linsly was just 2-of-17 behind the arc, while the Rebels totaled seven bonus goals.
